Maggie Lyon Varadhan - Lyon Lifestyle

Maggie Lyon Varadhan is a natural at lifestyle creation. She has been committed to holistic living, personal growth, health, and wellness since she was a teenager. She grew up in Northern California where farmers markets, organic food, integrative therapies, and holistic ways of being were commonplace.

As a freshman in college, she began a dedicated practice of both Zen Buddhism and Iyengar Yoga. These practices continue to serve as the pillars of her personal life and spiritual development. In addition, Maggie has designed a holistic lifestyle infused with complimentary and alternative disciplines, such as homeopathy, holistic nutrition, and various forms of self-healing.

In 1999, Maggie moved to New York City where she worked in the fashion and publishing industries. She got married, attained her Masters degree, taught English, wrote a novel, and gave birth to her son in 2004. However, she was astounded by how few people embraced natural practices. During these years, her own experience of feeling frayed from the intensity of the city forced her to reorganize her life. Out of the chaos, she constructed a dynamic life of wellness by seeking out an enclave of people and services that supported her beliefs in natural health and personal balance. She discovered the authentic path that enhanced her holistic lifestyle.

Suddenly, in December 2006, all of her training and core beliefs were put to the test. Maggie became severely ill with a case of amoebic dysentery, and ensuing endocrine, immune, and nervous system damage. Her life was turned inside out. Shell-shocked, she artfully gathered her resources and built an incredible team of alternative practitioners, specializing in acupuncture, holistic nutrition, EMDR and psychotherapy, massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, Jin Shin Jyutsu, energy medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and juice cleansing, all of whom supported her in reconstructing her body and health.

Maggie healed her body, regained her life, and expanded her spiritual wisdom with these healing modalities. Through her daily meditation, energy medicine, and restorative yoga practices, she became intensely aware that her path is one of service, guiding others on their individual quests for healthier lives. Maggie is devoted to steering you through chronic stress, acute health crises, or whatever else is at the root of your distress. Ultimately, she is here to support you in making and managing sustainable, uplifting life changes.

In addition to her deeply personal experiences and life-long training in natural health, nutrition, Zen, and yoga, Maggie is certified in Intuitive Wellness, and is pursuing credentials in Natural Wellness through Clayton College of Natural Health and in Holistic Nutrition through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.

Maggie lives and practices in New York City. She also writes a monthly blog at urbanzen.org.
